Brake rotor

Postby bri-guy-ga » Tue Aug 12, 2008 7:09 pm

From the noise and looks of my rotors its time for new front brakes. One question I have is do you resurface the rotors the way you do with a car? If not will rotors from another bike fit a GL500I to increase my supply a little? Are grooves in the rotors acceptable? They don't appear to be more than 1/16" deep.

Some grooves in the Rotors are acceptible if not too deep. You can get the Rotors skimmed and if you have a manual there should be set of service limit specs in there for the useable thickness. Is this a dual disc bike?

I thought I saw in the book where it was mentioned, but when I called my local Honda shop they didn't do it and never heard of it, so I started to doubt what I read. Yes its a 1982 GL500 Interstate.

It's not a job that most motorcycle shops would do.They would sub-contract out to an engineering firm anyway.
Yellow Pages:Local engineering company that does re-bores etc as in my local one that I get my crank shafts and rods checked prior to an engine re-build will most likely do them if required.

Is the bike Dual or Single Disc???
