First start in a lonnnnng time

So after a carb clean, new plugs, coolant, and oil, this is what I have. I'm posting this video to see what you guys think. I do not think the smoke is a head gasket, there is no water in the oil, and has good compression. I have a few questions:

Link to video: http://video.yahoo.com/watch/7411288/19390428

1. Why the smoke?
2. Is that the radiator fan clankin around?
3. Is that the valves I here tapping?

After running for 30 minutes and getting hot, the left plug was black and the right plug was white. I assume I need to adjust fuel mixture to correct this. Let me know what you think!

Stop running the bike and check the oil for copper flakes. It sounds like your cam chain needs replacing. If it's done in time you can save the engine,if too late the engine could be damaged.

Hey Shep, I checked the oil and there are no metal flakes at all (copper or any other color). The engine has three dots stamped near the vin. I thought I read somewhere that means it has been serviced for the recall. Do you know if that is true?

Good news on the flakes. The 3 dots usually means that the weak Cam chain guide and plates have been replaced however knowing these bikes it's time for the cam-chain to be replaced.Failure to do so will cause engine failure. Many people have to do this with the bikes when they get them as POs have been lazy. They usually last around 40,000 miles but with regular oil and coolant changes can last well over 70,000 miles.

See this recent thread as my friend John(Spanish Bandit) has just been through this and saved his bike,

If unsure at any stage just post or PM.It's a,"Must do" job really with these bikes just in case.Once done and with regular simple maintenance they will go easily another 50,000+ without too much hassle.

Also do all the stuff to service the bike first just in case like the tappets and Cam-chain.
