CX500 GL500 650 Global

It looks like my mono-shock isn't holding air. Are there rebuild kits available? I see used shocks on ebay go for over $100, so I would prefer to just rebuild what I have. I see from bike bandit that the seals and internal parts are no longer available. Suggestions?

Also I cannot beleive that Honda would have used a unique Monoshock so I reckon like many normal shockers they are a stock part with set dimensions so an alternative may be found.

Check out some of the USA links and start emailing some of the suppliers because even if they don't have a re-build kit they may have some information.Sometimes a phone call can work wonders as well.That'show I found out that one of my CX had CB400n Superdream forks on it!

I found the oil seal. They used the same part number on the CBX's. It is at cbxman.com. $14.27 isn't bad plus they give a size so might be able to find a generic one in the same size for less. Also the GL650 is a different part number. Not sure if it's the same shock, but part numbers are different.

Looks like you are getting somewhere.Don't give up on it.I'm sure it can be done without too much cost.Lots of parts are common even if they don't have the same Honda parts numbers.Seals are usually generic.

Rebuilding a monshock unit looks to be a daunting task if you read the Honda workshop manual. You appear to need a huge hydraulic press to start with. This is not true,

To get the oil out is actaully very easy but a bit messy - put some air in, turn it upsidedown and unscrew the air valve. Hey-presto, out comes the air preceeded by the oil. Not sure if it's empty? - do it again. The seal comes out without taking it apart - it is rare to have damaged slider area due to the big rubber boot. Getting the oil back in takes a bit of ingenuity but by using air, it can be pumped back in the way it come out.

I lucked out and found a shock for $20 on Ebay. Got it yesterday and it still had pressure. Did ooze some oil when I connected the gauge. Not sure if that is just from transit of the guy pumped it up too much. It has 25psi now, and holding. I will put it on soon and then rebuild the original when I get the time and courage.
