CX500 GL500 650 Global

I know using the engine compression for slow down braking is normal and also on down grades, but I've heard that long distance coasting in neutral is bad for the engine [not to mention the brakes] .If this is bad on the motor then why is that? Also. Everybody watch out for all the semi treads that litter the roadways. especially if you're going after dark. just about smacked one the other day.

It may be bad for some engine designs but I can't think of anything in these engines that it would harm.Personally I love the engine braking on these bikes and think it's one of of their rarely mentioned great features.I get almost as much pleasure rolling off the throttle and setting up for a,"Perfect Bend" as I do throttling out of the bend.

It has it all.Long straights,up and down hills,twisties and I play my,"No Braking" game to hone up my riding skills.This involves riding at decent speed but using my brakes as little as possible consciously setting up for bends and hazards and just using my engine braking.I have done that run and used my brakes less than 10 times on a quiet day.
