Additional lighting

Postby bri-guy-ga » Sat Sep 20, 2008 4:02 am

I was thinking of adding some lights for increased visibility both for me and for others around me. I like the idea of some driving lights up front and some sort of tail/brake lights on the back. Am I limited in total wattage that can be added? I would also like to add a stereo at some point if possible. I was thinking the Clarion II set-up.

Is there a way to increase the stator output for added accessories?

I don't think you can increase the power output but....

The standard CDI CX Stator out put is 170 watts. This equates to roughly 14 amps. You can usually add quite a few devices and the system can handle it.Just add up the bulb continual wattage on the bike(Discard indicators as they are intermittent).
Use the formula P= VxI(Watts equals volts times amps).

The ignition uses around 350 mA(0.35 A)

There are online calculators to help,

You can reduce some of the current used by fitting LED Stop/Tail Lights,

Remember as well that short commutes don't give the battery time to re-charge as much as long rides.A Solar battery charger to keep things topped up is a good idea,
