Well, Which ever way it would turn to insert it deeper into the jet! You twist it deeper in at the same time so it will grab harder while your pulling on it. When it reaches it's limit of the press fit, it will pop and come out. That's why you need to pull at the same time! So the extractor keeps biting into the jet for a strong hold. It's not like using it with a broken screw, where your trying to turn it gently to get the broken screw to start turning.

Woah! Did I miss this in the cleaning how to? And do you REALLY mean TWIST like heck too?
I gave up on my nastier carbs, well, chickened out actually, because I was using the extractor as I would normally for broken screws etc. It just didn't feel right, I guess I'll have to give it another go.
