CX500 GL500 650 Global

Hi,all again my cx 500 with gl550 engine in her was going great then the head light went.Thought bulb was gone so replaced it no joy put multimeter to connections and looks like no power.What could of caused this seems strange 2 me.Conan

Check the fuses under the head-stock plate?

If you have a multimeter check that there is voltage getting to the socket?Set to 20v DC scale.

Im in dublin Ireland.AllThe fuses are good. I put my multimeter to 9v dc and took reading from socket that bulb plugs into got no reading,also forgot to mention when I press the pa button (for flashing high beam) it works.Thats the only time Im getting power,should I thak a reading when i press the button.Cheers

Your meter should be on the 20v DC setting.It could even be a bad ground wire in the headlight.On these bikes they are Green for ground/earthing or just a loose connection in there.

Also check out the wiring schematic for your model.It may help you track the power to the bulb.

Stripped out head light and switch gear took off the tank continuity from headlight socket to switch (ie no breaks in the wiring) but no power to headlight socket which is the live white or blue earth/grounds seem ok any other ideas?.Conan

I hate doing electrics when I can't be ,"Hands on"

I'm qualified in electronics and Electrics so when I'm hands on I know my test procedures to track problems.I have to suspect an internal break in a wire or broken contact at the switch/s?The throttle and Clutch controls can be taken apart but there some very small components to watch for so I keep a magnet handy.

Great news.Glad you found it.It can be a PITA on older bikes especially if the wiring has been bodged/hacked/changed.
