You need to upload the picture to some web space.I use the free Photobucket,

http://photobucket.com/

That will give you a URL/Address for the picture. You can then pop that line in your Profile but make sure the picture conforms to the allowed size.

If you need to resize use the great free Irfanview,

http://www.irfanview.com/

And open the picture and choose Image/Resize from the Top menu in Irfanview :)

Yeah Lucky I keep getting that same message...and I followed Sheps instruction to the "T", tried this that and the other! And the only thing I was successful with was copying URL from a "small" image off Google, and pasting. I resized the photo in Photobucket,,,and in IrFan, but I guess I'm not holding my mouth right or something. I gave up for now...and I see Shep over in the corner laughing at us,and shaking his head...but I don't feel bad cause I know he's so much more intelligent than me. So for now, It Is What It Is.
At least I have something!

In Edit Avatar,

Maximum dimensions; width: 90 pixels, height: 90 pixels, file size: 6.00 KiB.

You can upload to Photobucket the resized Avatar. Then you just pick the Direct link from Photobucket's drop down list, not an image one as that's for when a picture is in the body a message.

So my Avatar link is,

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e315/ ... ysmall.jpg

Well Shep I tried all the links provided, tried resizing several sizes, and it either tells me its too large or invalid URL. I know it can't be just me cause I see posts all over the place about that question and people having problems. And if they have figured it out, then how come I see very few avatars? As I said before,I downloaded from google images,("small" setting) I just right clicked and copied URL address.
I followed your steps precisely...but I'm to a point where it's not that important to me now...and definitely not fun. You have shown us in other posts, you are a computer Wiz...which I'm guessing helps considerably.I am however a few notches below you,and a few notches above the Indian Techy you get on the phone. I hope I'm not coming off as being pissy, that is not my intention. I just need you to understand what seems easy to you, is not for me or us.Or maybe something is not functioning properly. But for now,I will keep what was easy for me,and be contented. Thanks for your time and patience on this anyway. Have a Good1-Rog
