CX500 GL500 650 Global

Where do you guys usually go for replacement parts. I am thinking filters, brake pads and more normal items. What about those more infrequent parts, stators, and electronics?
I was looking at bikebandit.com for regular parts, but figured I would ask the more seasoned riders out there. Are the dealers good for anything other then overcharging you?

For the USA and UK always have a look at ebay.

The normal service parts like filters can be bought off EBay usually 3 or 4 at a time pretty cheap. I need to go out and dig out the receipt for where I had my stator rewound 4 years ago to let you know who the guy was. But as I said, 4 years ago! He must have known what he was doing huh?
As Shep mentioned, check the USA links and you will find lots of replacement sites. I have talked to some of these folks and let them know we were going to add their links to this sight, so mention it if you use them.

Good point.It's nice to build up a decent relationship with suppliers.I have a decent one with David Silver over here.I don't get any discounts but I do get good service and had to return a set of faulty head gaskets.They replaced them free of charge,no quibble

I'm a bikebandit and ebay person. If I need basic parts today I would stop by the local honda dealer but if I have a few days or have to wait for the weekend I tend to order things online. I have bought things from Old Bike Barn and although the parts were great the shipping sucked for price and time it took to get the item.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, give them your email address and ask for their phone #. Preferably BEFORE you buy their item. It puts the personal touch back in the business relationship that makes them connect to you as the personal buyer. I have gotten great ideas from sellers this way, and super deals on stuff they have not listed, or only have in stock and do not intend to list.

Case in point, I talked to Terry, the shop owner of TASMOTORSPORTS.COM, in the USA list for parts, at 260-563-6937 last Saturday. He said we are all welcome to call him with needs and ideas! During the conversation, of which by the way, he was very glad to hear we were adding his site to our forum, he asked me to get a consensus of as many members as I could, of what parts we as the CX/GL owners would like to see the aftermarket manufacturers continue to produce. He says they are all starting to discontinue the lines for these models because the demand is not as high as it once was. His gasket supplier had only enough stuff to put together 24 complete gasket kits for the CX/GL engine, and did not know if they were going to produce any more. ( they will come on line in a month, if you ever plan to redo an engine, get them now ) Terry says he goes to all the large motor cycle conventions to talk to all the suppliers and tries to convince them to keep making parts for the vintage bikes, but he needs our help. George at GEORGEFIX'S on EBay says he is having the same problem with his suppliers.
We need, I need, to do a post to do the consensus forum, but have not had much time for it because of my work, doctor and therapy sessions for my shoulder. We have a great family of CX/GL owners here! I would hate to see it dwindle away because we can't find parts to keep our passions alive. The day might come that we need to park them in a museum and dust them off once in a while for all to see and say, "I REMEMBER THOSE"
I don't want to see that happen. Crap, I just got on the podium and did a speech didn't I!

Thanks guys. I ordered the oil and air filter from bikebandit. about 11.50 combined for the air and oil filters. Both are emgo products. I was a little leary about the ebay guys as the brands were unkown and some had big shipping costs. Maybe one day I will order a pack and save $$$, but for now it just get the bike on the road. I will be getting the fork seals for georgefix though. Nice looking stuff.

Remember when doing the forks fork oil is way superior to ATF.I use 20w fork oil.The difference is quite substantial.If you cannot get it from a local bike shop you can get it off Ebay

I second that! Did mine with 20w also. What a difference in the ride!
