You may have done so already, but just in case... I highly recommend going to your local auto parts store, buying a package of 20A fuses, and replacing the original and the spare. If you're afraid to touch it, it's not wise to depend on it to keep your bike running

If GL is not around.They are known as the Transistor Ignition engine,"Spark Ignitors".

Ignition wise here's the basic differences between my CDI ignition older Cxs and the later Gls/Cxs etc

My Stator is more complicated.

It not only has windings to charge the battery but also extra coils to provide a high voltage to supply the CDI Ignition box/ unit.The Advance and retard of the engine is taken care of my another set of small coils on a plate in the rear of the engine under a cover.



The TI engines have a simpler Stator as it only needs to charge the battery.The power for the sparker units and thus the coils is supplied by the battery.The Advance and retard is provided by a set of spring weights mechanism in the same place where my Advance and retard is located.

The TI engines thus are more robust electrically because of the more simplified Stator called a G8 type which is also a higher output at 250w than my 170w G47.

The G8 stators are also used in the Big old GL1000s as well.

Tip:Never pay a premium price for a G8 stator as they are more common than mine and also even the Starter Solenoids on our bikes are the same as the ones used on GL1000s so you can shop around and get good prices off Ebay.

I made the same mod, Shep. I soldered the blade fuseholder into the wiring and used heatshrink tubing to cover the soldered joints. The fuseholder will outlast the bike, I reckon )

Don't be too sure.I think some of the bikes will still be going in the 22nd Century and there will still be arguments about which oil to use(But oil will be a specialist fluid made from recycled,"Green Piece" members<grin>.Solent Green oil anyone?

I've read this before but never thought much about it. Today I came out of a library, turned the key, and got nothing no start no lights nothing. The battery was charged so I looked at the main fuse. It was not blown but one side showed it had got hot. When I removed it it fell apart. It had failed by heating one side and unsoldering itself. The good news was that there was still a spare fuse in the plastic holder. I squeezed the terminals tighter, put in the spare and the bike started right up. Moral check the main fuse.

It's amazing what problems a main fuse and old holder can cause
