CX500 GL500 650 Global

I got my bike 4 months after I started dating my girlfriend. It's been 5 years last month. It wasn't much but it's been a fun journey. Suppose I should also mention that I'm still with the girl. Stick with the good things get rid of the bad. She was good enough to convince her dad to give me the pile of metal, wires, cable and hay that sat under an apple tree dissembled for 6 years and before that in a van since 1984.

I really wish I had more pictures of what it looked like when I got it except I lost a summers worth of photos when my last IBM died. Now it's Mac for life. Just picture lots of mud, rust, and cut wires and you will do fine.

You do know that with those engine protector bars some guys have fitted forward pegs for Highway cruising?Don't know if you like that riding position and kept their normal ones on as well

You know every once in a while I put my feet in that position to test if I would like it because I have seen guards with them mounted and something doesn't feel right.

I know what you mean.I'm so used to the old school position it feels unnatural to me but it was just a thought for long ride comfort.

I suffer bad with VWF(Vibration White Finger) so these have been a lifesaver.I nearly had to give up riding one of my CXs because it go so bad.

I never realized that was your bike. You have done a nice job getting it back on the road and looking sharp. I tried a 2003 sportster seat for my sons 80 custom, but he said it sat to far forward for him. So I didn't waist $100.00 on it just to cut it up and redo it. We are both 6'2" and need more leg room.
I did notice that in your pictures, your header pipes are gold in color. I have read that means its running to rich. Blue is to lean. Good thing we are going to do some carbs for you to resolve it.

The seat was a nice new addition but you are right as in it's not going to really help out for leg room. The only thing that would really help would be to cut the rear of the bike frame and move that dip in the frame back. I'm not really into modifying the bike that much. Maybe if I had a welder things would be different but who knows.

I think the one real advantage the seat has is a lot more new foam. I had a 29 year old seat and I knew if I tried to remove the seat cover I would rip it where it mounts to the seat. I looked at the cost of a new seat cover and some foam and weighed the options. I picked up the seat for $60 after shipping which was cheaper than the other option.

Last year when I put the Mac exhaust on I was having tons of problems and almost gave up on the bike. While adjusting one side of the carb I can hear the change and the other side I cant hear any difference. Cant remember which one was responding better.

I remember R8oDave offered to balance my carbs if I drove to his house (about a 200 mile ride) but it backfired on me. That weekend everything went wrong that could (gas related) floats didn't float right, One sank, clogged fuel strainer in the tank, carb bottom drain on the inside developed a crack. I took off down the road pouring gas out of the bike till it got to the point where the fuel strainer was plugged then it died. Glad I was only about 6 miles from home otherwise it would have sucked bad.

Sounds like your bike was looking out for you. She didn't want you to get stranded to far from home, so she dumped early.

Ran out of gas in front of a donut shop. Not sure if that is a sign but when my front wheel bearing went on my truck it stopped dead in the road in front of an ice cream stand.
