Hi folks,i was recenly given a scruffy GL500,the main problem with it is water is getting into the oil :( The previous owner changed the head gaskets and fitted a new mechanical seal,he has been known to work on his bike after a bottle of scotch  and his eye sight isnt that good either so the work he has done may need re-doing.Is there any where else water can get into the oil?

It's almost certainly the Oil Seal in the rear case of the engine which manes taking the engine out.

It's part of the water pump assembly and number 11 on here,

But fits in the rear top of the back engine case.If you put where you are in your signature I can point you to spares required.

I use David Silvers or Wemoto for these kinds of parts,

This is the one you want,
http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/Honda/CX_50 ... _Oil_Seal/

They are the same for all 500 models. You may need a new rear gasket.I make my own where I can,

Remember that spring loaded oil-seals always have the spring facing the oil :)

Same with fork seals/Tacho seal etc.
