CX500 GL500 650 Global

I cannot get one of the black covers inside carbs off! Broke the tab trying
Any suggestions would be helpful as my 4th try @ a good cleaning depends

I'm doing a clean on a pair of these carbs myself right at the moment. These covers just lifted out without hassles after undoing the single phillips head screw that secures them. Maybe a previous owner has glued them in?

As per above as there is only one phillips screw usually what has happened?

apprently upon further inspection ....the PO had dropped the bike and the carb body
had "dented" in therefore making it difficult for the black banana to be removed.....
All is well has I filed a bit and removed the broken Black banana and replaced with a
spare.

As long as the slide still moves freely you should be good to go.

Also the two brass holes under the Black Banana and the two on the other side of the top of each carb are the most common cause of carb cleaning problems.These four per side small venturi are part of the idle to slow speed circuit.I clean mine with compressed air/WD40 and a guitar string( approx 0.014" G string) after a cold white vinegar soak.

There are three very tiny holes that come out one in front of the Butterflies and two behind.If these get clogged you will have problems with acceleration from idle to around 3,000 Rpm so all Four in the tops of the carbs and these three MUST be clean.
