Coke-a-Cola contains Phenolic acid that will pre-oxidize the ferrous metal inside the tank thus slowing down rusting

How long do I need to leave the Coke in the tank, and what would be safe to rinse it out with? Would water rinse make it rust up or not!

Depending on the temp around 15 mins.Heat tank with hair-dryer to speed up.Once dry just swill a bit of petrol/gas around and then dump

I just cleaned my tank with the POR15 system. Worked great. Removed all the rust and then the liner sealed the metal. I shouldn't have rust issues again. The process took a week, but well worth it to know one problem won't be back. It also sealed those little holes that showed up after my first attempt at cleaning the tank. $40 well spent in my opinion.

Por15 is supposed to be the best stuff but if you are on a budget every little helps

I did a small tractor gas tank for a guy, and he bought the POR15 for it. Since I have most of the quart left, I'm going to use it in my sons tank this time when the rust is all dissolved out. I just wonder if I should not use the coke in it now!
What do you say?

If you have the proper stuff use it but even then there's nothing to stop you using coke 1st as it turns in the rust into Fe2O3,"Black rust" which means it's been converted to a form of oxide that does not continue to rust in the normal way.Same as some commercial products.

Larry, I have used the POR 15 too. Great stuff. You may not be able to use the rest of the quart tho. I think it hardens by exposure to moisture. Once you open the can, you only get one shot. I would be interested in knowing if this is correct, if you try it, post the results.
