CX500 GL500 650 Global

i have a 82 cx500c. all of the electronics seem to work but im getting no spark.....the tank, fairings, and headlight has been removed and i cant seem to make sense of these diagrams.the four vertical fuses on the bars are good....since the headlights, tails, brake, horn, etc. work the main fuse must be ok. however, the manual says the main fuse is beside the battery but it doesnt look like a fuse to me. there is a small black plastic piece with 2 red (hot) wires connected to it.(is this what the Japanese called a fuse in the early 80's?). if so i will be cutting that out and splicing in a "normal fuse holder". my other problem is under the seat. there is a fuse holder with a blown fuse in it. i think it takes a 5amp fuse but it blows as soon as the key is turned to acc or on. it is a light green wire with a black stripe going into the holder. the wire on the other side of the holder is also green with a black stripe but it is spliced into a solid green wire. im not sure if this is supposed to be like this or if a previous owner did some "rigging." i am mechanically inclined, although a beginner with motorcycles. i understand cars and trucks quite well but this thing has me stumped. can someone point me in the right direction before i start hacking away at this rats nest of a wire harness?

I think your suspicions about the PO are correct.I don't have a,"Custom" but I don't think there is a fuse in-between a Green and Black wire.There certainly isn't on Standard CXs.
All I can suggest is you try and trace the Green and Black wire back to something?

The old main fuses that used a Sort of thick wire arrangement corrode with age and were a bad design in the 1st place.

the diagram i found does show a 5amp fuse somewhere in there but it looks like (on diagram)its supplying power to the acc lights........yet all these lights work with the fuse being blown.

I can see a 5 amp fuse on the Diagram in the electrical section.It seems to only be in series to the ignition switch(Green and Yellow)but in parallel to ground.That would suggest to me a possible short at the ignition switch?

Green wires on these bikes are ground/frame wires so check the spliced wire for voltage and un-hook it and see what happens?

already checked the voltage on the spliced wire....it has nothing.....the other end of the fuse holder is in fact hot though. i used a test light when i originally found the problem i just couldnt figure out where the light green wire with the voltage is connected. im going to dig into the ignition switch and see what i find tomorrow.

ignition switch looks ugly. the yellow/green wire was melted to the black/white wire and a solid black wire. on top of that, there are two wires that come from the harness and attach to 2 diffferent blades sticking out of the plastic.....on of these blades has snapped off. i think the wires attached to the blades are for the kill switch but im not sure what the little part is called; or if i can "fix" it and test for spark. i want to replace the little plastic piece with the broken blade connector; possibly even the entire switch assembly but unsure about price and availability. any suggestions
