CX500 GL500 650 Global

Once again the Haynes manual has given great advice, on a CX500B the clearances are 0.08mm IN, 0.10mm EX in one manual and 0.10mm IN, 0.12mm EX in another Haynes manual! which is the correct setting? What is the best polish to use on the rocker covers? i used Autosol on mine with a buffing wheel in a drill and can't seem to get them as shiny as i'd like. On a final note just read about the dome nut thread shearing on the camshaft, how common is this? The previous owner of my CX replaced the camchain, hope he remembered to put plenty of copper grease on that camshaft thread! Another thing to keep me awake at night!

In my Haynes and Honda Service manual what happens is they seem to round up numbers.The metric settings don't have as fine a gauge as the Imperial measurements so here's my take on it,

So I use 0.0035" inlet and 0.0045" exhaust.

As for Head covers they are not all equal I've found.Some will buff up nice,some seem to be ingrained with age and just never seem to get a good shine.Try some toothpaste.It's an ultra fine abrasive for the final polish or as the Pros do some jewleller's rouge,
