CX500 GL500 650 Global

What happens if you take the air filter out and spray some Brake/Carb cleaner or WD40 into the carbs and then crank it?

If it fires on both for a few seconds after playing with the throttle it points to the carbs and usually floats/Float needle valves and float heights.

baugh,if you have a confirmed good spark both sides,your compression is good.you only have fuel delivery from that particular carb to question.ie it cannot be delivering fuel.
a good clean of the carbs and like shep said float heights.

Well, I adjusted the floats and they are exact to your specs. And I started it and still the same problem. I did spray carb cleaner in the right carb and it fired for a few seconds like you said. So, could it be a bad needle. They are the old ones. Should I strip the carb down and soak it and get a rebuild kit? New needle, etc. I dont know what else to try and am on a budget.

Are you 100% certain there are NO air leaks around the carb boot on that side?I use WD40 or Carb/Brake cleaner Aerosols and spray around them at idle.If the speed changes in either direction there's a leak fault.

Well, I checked for leaks in the boots, none and i replaced the O-rings just for certain. I even took the carb of and boiled it and sprayed it down good with air and carb cleaner. Still, the right cylinder does not fire. It acts like it wants to. when i choke it a little or spray in the carb with something. I'm almost ready to take it to the local bbike garage and pay shop hours

I would still suspect the carbs or even the CDI unit if this is a CDI bike.Put your bike in with your info.You may think you have cleaned the carbs but many people overlook the slow speed circuit under what I call the,"Black Banana" in the top of the carbs.All these holes should be soaked with some kind of CLR(Calcium Lime Remover) or left to soak in white Vinegar(Never use vinegar on accelerator pumps or Vacuum pet cocks if fitted.They are made of different metal and will dissolve)
Then all holes really well blown with high pressure air.Also is the black rubber bung present in the bottom of the carbs in-between the jets?

Also a lot of shops don't want to touch these bikes and will charge you an arm and a leg.
Lets go back a bit.Are you getting a good spark on that side.Don;t put the plug on the cylinder cover as that's insulated from the frame.Use a better part of the engine or a bit of wire around the outside of the plug to a good ground.

Well I noticed something different, gas leaking from the exhaust one the bad side. So I replaced the resistors in the plug caps as directed. There seems to be good spark. could it possibly be the cdi?

Oh, also i did soak the carb in vineger and then i boiled it for an hour in vinegar and water and sparyed the holes out with air.
