Hello, I am a newb to the sight, and kind of new to the CX500. I picked up my CX for free... Found it on Craigs List, I was told it wouldn't run. the guy wanted it out of his way, so I put it on my trailer and took it home... Put the battery on the charger, swashed some seafoam around in the tank, waited a few days... then went out and started her right up on the first try... Now I am in the process of stripping it down for paint and restore... I am going to be giving it to my step daughter for a graduation present next summer. We don't plan on doing anything to fancey with it... Just restore it back to stock, and any mods we do to the bike will be done with OEM parts... minus the shocks... the bike needs to be a little lower for her (she is only 5'5" and can barely touch the ground. So the plan is to put some HD shocks on the rear, and some progressive front springs in the forks...

one of the mufflers is rotted out, where is a good place to get a cheap trumpet style muffler (or 2) and I need some header pipes. whats the consensus on the H-Box... Keep it, or remove it?

Here are pics of the bike the day I brought it home

Welcome. The exchange rate is in your favour if you need to get some exhausts from over here in the UK,

http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/
http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/Honda/CX_500_A/79-80/

Put you bike model in their search boxes.

But I would join and post on the North American site called Chopper Charles(CX/GL forum) as they will know the US suppliers,

http://www.recreationsupply.ca/pdf/2008s-02_ATV.pdf

page 27 on this pdf, lists replica cx cans. Mounted right up easy on my GL as well. Nice quality can. 1983 GL650i
Had 4 CX/GL's at one point this year, down to one, next spring is another adventure!

You'll have to do a bit of research to get the right ones I think.Under the Honda replica section.

Getting rid of that hideous piece was the first thing I did... sold it for 20 bucks as well...

My daughter is having a blast... She took all the plastics off and started laying out the paint scheme... She wants it dark green with purple graphics... not sure what she is doing for graphics, but what ever she does is going to be cool... she is a great artist...

Post up pics with the new paint scheme.

I am making slow progress on mine, but thanks to Admin's help I have some ideas on what I need to do - It's currently in pieces!! I am going to degrease the motor next :)
