not charging: 80 custom

A new battery in July, run about 4k since. Battery tender in the cold nights... rough starts without the sun or under 40*... but will still go.

Left the key in the ignition for 36 hours in "on" position. Plugged in the Battery Tender and it's not even showing "charge" now. Fuse on the tender is solid, still.

Any suggestions as to why it's not charging? do i check the levels (eyeballs show enough acid in the battery....)

I have a 300 mile run this weekend in the cold and was planning on rolling it., so any answers would really help...

thanks

mike

If the battery was left discharged it may be ruined :(

I didn't leave it over the winter... I've been riding it. A one time discharge will kill it? Really?

It could do depending on the make of battery.Over here there's a brand called,"MF" and they are crap batteries.I had one go in less than 3 months and the shop wouldn't replace it as I didn't keep the receipt and I had a pal who had one and he went through two in as many weeks.Totally crap quality control and badly made batteries.

It may not be the cause but there are good and bad Brands.

If you have a multi-tester and set it to 20v DC with the bike idling and or revved to say 3,000 Rpm you should read around 14.5 volts.

If it's below 13v there's a fault with the charging circuit usually the Stator.I it's above say 15v it's a sign the Regulator Rectifier unit is faulty.

If you haven't got one then get one with a continuity tester/buzzer as it's then good for other jobs on the bike,
