CX500 GL500 650 Global

Hey All -

Denny from Sebastopol, CA. 51 yrs old and work as a sales application engineer for a company that manufactures airflow measurement equipment.

Got a 81 GL500I in July and recently got a 80 CX500 parts bike (maybe not a parts bike). I am also on choppercharles site as 'sendin'

Rode a little when I was 14, but otherwise new to bikes. Did my homework and decided the GL500 was the way to go for me and I am very happy I did my homework! I use the bike to commute to work which about 15.2 non-freeway miles.

Welcome aboard.Please don't let the bike against the tree die.Bring it back to life!
Your present GL must be saving you a Ton of money on fuel so the other bike deserves it<grin>

The fellow who had it just gave it to me. He parked in '96 when the water pump started leaking - and there it sat - partially covered by a car port out in the sticks.

When we pulled it out of the weeds the tires still held air and held air when the bike was strapped down hard on the trailer and when we rolled it off at my place after a hard ride home. Darn thing is really rough, but it is all there. I was thinking likewise, restore it; and having the cert of title, it would seem a shame to part it out. Not sure I am up for such a project, but she's safe at home for now. Guess I'll take some time and consider what to do.

Well all I can say is that with this forum and CC's you have a knowledge base of experience and expertise at your disposable that NASA would envy

I see from your links that you're no stranger to unusual bikes, (your recumbent cycle is cool!) so it's only natural to have BOTH a GL and a CX!

I'm also a GL owner that just got a CX, so maybe I should put a recumbent machine on my list too

Good luck with the CX, it clearly wants to roll again so don't give up! There are plenty of parts (bikes) out there and plenty of knowledge around here, so go for it and keep us posted on your progress.

These things take neglect but it's best not to.
