Hello fellow CXer's. Currently working on a 81 Custom (soon to be Deluxe). Like many others, I stumbled onto a deal I couldn't refuse. I had no previous knowledge of the model prior to taken ownership. I was very happy to find tons of online resources and a great support group to help with the project. My progress is being made at a snail's pace, but I'm still plugging away. I have thus far rebuilt the forks, performed the triple bypass, cleaned and painted/polished 90% of the bike (still in progress), had carbs rebuilt by LRCXed (aka the king of carbs), and just recently added a Deluxe tank.

I see there are a lot of members from the Chopper Charles site here - so hello to all old and new faces alike...

Welcome aboard. This forum was started be me when CC's site was having hosting problems as just another resource and just in case any other forum went down.I'd hate to lose so much combined knowledge about these bikes. There's a good chance I won;t see it but I'd like to think some if not many of them are still going in another 28 years :geek:

The CC site has a wealth of information, but the lack of "search" function makes it very cumbersome to find any of it (info). Don't get me wrong.... I love the site and it's members. I have never seen such a cordial and helpful group of guys on an internet forum. Every question is taken earnestly, no matter how remedial.. Since I joined (~2 yrs ago), I've only read one "shouting match" between members. Being anonymous and behind a keyboard can really bring out the worst in people; not so on the CC site.. and the same appears to be true here. Thanks for taking the initiative of starting Global CX forum!! I see you've enlisted a very capable moderator as well!! Larry was kind enough to permit me to ride his pride and joy while I was up in Sacramento. Let me tell you.. it rides as good as it looks and sounds even better!!

Thanks again Shep!

Welcome aboard! Glad to see you made it.
When you get the bike done, I look forward to seeing it, and maybe even take a ride with you if you get up this far.
Keep every one posted on the progress of it.
You should show the tank mount conversion on here also. It's a smooth idea.

Hey Larry,

I'll take you up on that future ride... can you wait a year or two? I'll post the tank mod I did as soon as I correct the steering clearance issue - an desirable by-product of the mod!! I was up till midnight last night polishing my fork lowers - Thanks a lot Larry!!! (I have to get up at 4:30am for work!). I lose all track of time when I enter that damn garage!

Redryder,
I'll see you in a year or so then.
Let me know if you need any more help.
I'll be at home all the time after the 19th.
Surgery you know!
I just secured the deal on a 79 deluxe frame. You got my tank just in time!
