Got my 1981 cx500C from a freind that let her sit out in the weather for at least 5 years on the sidestand.

The south facing side of the bike was literally green with algae, the north side was the left side (where the side stand is) so all the rain, snowmelt and freezing happened there. Caliper was corroded and seized beyond repair.

Fortunately the carbs didn't corrode. I did a complete rebuild on them, flushed the cooling system and checked all the hoses and piping, changed all fluids, popped in a new batt and imagine my surprise when she started right up!!! New cables, of course, and now that she'll get up to temp with no signs of seal damage, I'm ordering a set of tires. Time to do some road tests.

One thing that really amazed me was that after 5+ years out in the nasty, the old battery still read 4.5 volts. No ground faults here!

Welcome.Your story mirrors many. It's sad in one aspect that so many of these bikes were abandoned over there but it is also good that people find them and bring them back into service :)
