CX500 GL500 650 Global

I'm replacing my front tire before snow melts here in Michigan, could be in a couple weeks, could be a month and a half or more... I'm wondering if I'd have less control with a 90/90-16 than I do with the 100/90. I'm sure it would reduce the drag, giving at least slightly better acceleration, but wondering if it would hold as well braking and cornering, anyone tried this?

There are a lot of myths about motorcycle tyres.One common mistake is fitting a fatter tyre thinking it will give more grip.This is not always the case.
The tyres are designed to the rim and the side walls flex at a specific rate.Skinnier tyres can handle better on corners.I have run my rears at both stock and one size up and there's little difference.As mine are UK bikes we have the 18" rear wheels so I won't bother giving you sizes.If possible stick to the recommended size but one size down or up shouldn't cause a problem.

Another common mistake is not letting tyres warm up.Never stress/lean the bike hard for at least a few miles,more in cold weather.Most accidents are within in a couple of miles of home.This may well be psychological e.g the rider/drive relaxes too much and takes their eye of the ball but on leaving definitely hard cold tyres are a big NO NO IMHO.

I can go stock, just wondering if skinnier might enhance the handling and acceleration or not

I think my skinnier tyre did handle a bit better but the best improvement to handling is using 20w fork oil.

That's one thing I saw on here that I'm planning on doing soon, this forum kicks @$$, looked at most of the topics within the last few days, the perks of being unemployed and no kids etc, I get to focus on researching stuff on my baby, she's gonna be happy when she rolls out of my living room with a complete makeover after the snow is melted, face lift with the new fork oil, new 2-1 exhaust, flushing the radiator, new front tire, Dyna seat, checking the valve lashing and adjusting the cam chain, both way overdue I'd imagine, had 16k miles when I bought her last yr, and she's got over 45-50k now, repaint the gas tank, and possibly some other things, depends on what else I find on the forums lol

I can recommend my Electric fan conversion.It does away with the crappy mechanical fans that have been known to explode with age and take the radiator out
