As per my other post I think you should look for a cheap engine and or ask on Chopper Charle's forum as well in case some one has one for sale?

I picked up a parts bike over the weekend. $250 for an 81 CX500D model with a running engine. When I went to pick it up the seller ran it for about 30 seconds to a minute so I could see and hear it run. So I am planning to do the engine swap next weekend. I an really hoping that this solves the problem and gets me back on the road.

Good news.I hope you made sure it's the same type e.g CDI or Transistor ignition?

Anyhoo.If all goes well do a quick engine oil change with some cheap 20w50 Supermarket oil and run it for say 25 miles and then out the correct 10w40 mineral or 15w40 and a new filter.
then you can tweak the tappet/cam chain adjust as you go etc
