Post subject:  Hello From Sussex UK !!

Hi people & thanks for the invite Shep!

My name is Ross & I have a 1981 CX500 CB Uk model which my father bought in 1884.

I have been riding it since I turned 17 in 1996 & I restored the bike around six years ago.

In the last few months it has developed a major gearbox problem so I bought a spare engine & have removed the gearbox to replace mine. I have since found that my camshaft is knackered so that is being swapped too. As this is the first time I have been inside any engine & our CX is so precious to my father & I, buying a spare engine has turned out to be invaluable as a practice run.

It has provided around £1000 worth of replacement parts which are no longer available so for the £50 I paid I think it is the best money I ever spent!

While the engine is out I am having the Stator rewound, replacing the camchain, guide/tensioner blades, bolt & spring & replacing the mechanical seal. I am also doing the one thing I didn't get done on the main restoration job - painting the engine! When this is done the bike will be in showroom condition.

Many thanks to shep & the guys on Chopper Charles CX Forum who have provided advice all the way along. Also to Rob Davis for his eternally helpfull walkthrough guides & finally to David Silver Spares UK without whom I would never have been able to afford the numerous parts I have replaced.

Hello again to you all & wish me luck putting it all back together - I hope it starts first time again like it did a few years ago!

Regards, Ross.
