Hello all you CX freaks
I just bought my first CX500 Deluxe (1979) a couple of weeks ago. Its been sitting in a shed for the last 8 years but covered up and really in good cosmetic condition. I'm in the USA, state of Virginia and I've been a VTwin guy most of me adult life. This is the 3rd Honda I've owned, first was a 1966 Honda 90, then a 1985 1500 Goldwing and now this very cool looking CX500 Deluxe. It started right up when I bought it, but its all gummed up, engine ran nice, no smoke but the trottle and the engine weren't on real good speaking terms, they acted independently!
I've stripped off the Vetter Windjammer SS Fairing and mounting hardware, I'm going to sell those items as well as the crash bars I've removed. The fairing is a solid 8 out of 10 condition, the crash bars cracked at two mounting points and have been rewelded so the chrome there is not to good, but the bars are not bent or dinged up. I've got the tank off and soaking in Citric acid to remove the surface rust and next is the disassembly of the carbs so I can clean the varnish out of those. I've never taken carbs apart so I'm hoping you guys and gals can give me some good pointers of things to watch out for and avoid.
Once I navigate around the site a little I'll try and post some pictures of the bike and you can see the bike with the fairing and crash bars mounted.
