Greetings all! My name is Tim Koch, and I live in Maiden, NC. I am in the process of acquiring a pair of CX's, an '82 that is almost street ready, and another which is untitled and is currently a parts bike. I'm told by the current owner that the parts bike has a crankable motor. I may see about restoring that one. The CX will be my second bike, my first being a 1982 CB750SC Nighthawk. I have been between motorcycles for a couple of years, so I am very excited about getting the CX. I am thrilled with the level of enthusiasm I have found online for this model, and look forward to sharing the experience with you! Keep the rubber side down! - Tim |

Welcome.If you haven't already join Chopper Charle's site as well, http://choppercharles.com/cs/forums/ It's busier than here and a North American site.Between the two there's little or nothing we don't know about the bikes  Also the Australian site is worth joining as well, http://australiancx.asn.au/forum/ All good,all useful

There are some simple and reasonably cheap improvements you can make to these motorcycles. 1:Change the old ATF fluid in the forks for modern 20w heavy fork oil, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Motul-Fa ... veQ5fTools It will transform the handling so the bikes corner as if on,"Rails".You won't believe how such a small change can make such a huge difference.It will appear subtle at 1st but you will soon start to feel how well these bike handle. 2:If like me you suffer badly from any vibrations then the Vista Cruise Control is a must, This is the one I use, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-Soun ... ccessories It doesn't look much but what a godsend.I also change my riding technique so that when the traffic allows I ride with my thumbs up on top of the bars lessening the grip but still giving control but removes a lot of the vibration effect. 3:Fire-and-Forget 1157 LED stop/Tail lamps, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2x-1157- ... 2307703ee8 Use less current,produce less heat,never burn out and react faster. Note:Most of use use cheap supermarket 15w40 made for diesel car engines oil.It's the best oil as it's much higher spec than normal four-stroke oil but dead cheap.The most common brand used over there is Rotella usually from places like Walmart.Don't be duped into using fully synthetic oil as our engines were not designed for it and it costs way too much for what it is. The highest mileage trouble free motorcycles that I know of all use cheap oil but changed at half the service point around 3,000 miles and also coolant changes at least every two years and some people I know do it every year.Straight car coolant/anti-freeze is fine mixed 50/50 with rain water(Less calcium/lime build up).I keep a couple of water butts in my back garden. Your temp gauge and your plugs are the windows into the engine.If the bike's running hot then there's a fault.You will know your plug states I'm sure but anyway, http://www.pdsrecording.site90.com/cxgl500/Plugs.htm Also if it's a manual cam adjustment this should be done at least every-time you do the oil along with the Tappets, http://www.pdsrecording.site90.com/cxgl ...
