Rinsed it out some more and it has 3 pin holes just forward of the rubber bushings for the side panels. Two on the right side one on the left on the vertical section where the top curves over and the bottom bents up to meet. These are not from rubbing the frame, but from the acid wash. The paint bubbled up around them, guess there was more rust there then I thought. I have some POR15 left over so will paint over the holes with that in the morning once the tank is good and dry. Should hold for a while till I can order the POR15 tank liner. Will start it up tomorrow with an auxillary tank and see how it goes. At least that way I take the tank and petcock out of the mix and see how the carbs do on their own.

Tank Rust remover Evapo-Rust

I swear by this stuff now.... what a great product

http://www.evaporust.com/evaporust.html

It is available in Canada at Home Hardware stores. The real benefit is that you can leave it for days / weeks / or I should guess years, and you won't ever have to worry about it 'eating' good metal - it is NOT an acid, but it does a really good job of removing rust. I put a bunch of rusty bolts from the back of my garage into it. Left it overnight, and they came out clean and shiny. The only deterioration was what damage was already done by the rust.

Tank Rust Remover

Well, despite 130,000 km and 26 years old, my CX500 tank was spanking clean on the inside. The same however is not true for my CB750K of the same vintage. I was one of only 2 owners of the CX, and I'm sure both of us made sure the CX was winterized correctly - with a full tank of gas. However, I'm the 8th owner of my CB. The outside of the tank is pristine, but I can see the rust on the inside. Once we are in the off season, the CB is due for a complete engine replacement, and I'm going to fill the tank with the Evapo-Rust. I will post pictures of the results once the project proceeds.

No reason to start a new thread Shep. I put it all back together and took it for a 30 minute ride. Runs great now, and the leaks are sealed. Probably needs some carb adjustment, but no hesitation like before and power through all 5 gears. Thanks for all the help guys. A few more things and she will be ready for some serious rides.

Shep
I did the vinegar treatment for almost a week and you wouldn't believe what came out. About 1/2 cup of rust and other junk. I only drained it because I wanted to paint it up sunday. The paint looks pretty decent for a quick spray on job. Rustoleum gloss black and clear engine enamel. Says it resists gas and oil but time will be the true test.

I think im going to kreem the tank when I get a chance but most likely next spring before the riding season starts.
I also got a petcock from WisconsinCx that looks pretty good put the true test will be when I but the tank on and fill it with gas.
