Hey there, I'm Thomas from Greensboro North Carolina. Been riding bikes since I was young and have an affinity for old things. Bikes, cars, trucks, guns, all things that get better with time. I have a 1981 Honda GL500, it was abandoned at a apartment complex and I got the bike when the property owner wanted it removed. It sat for years and was missing quite a few parts. I got it running and then proceeded to bob the bike out in my own weird way. It's a kind of post apocalyptic/madmax bomber. I named it "Left 4 Dead" and cal this type of build not really a Rat Bike, but more of a Trash Bagger. I'm running pods, short open exhaust, homemade fairing, cut the frame, made a custom seat, relocated the electronics and battery, and a few other things. Fun bike. Anyway, I've been reading post on here for a while now and finally joined because I needed help finding Larry's email for some carb help. Larry seems like a great guy, he responded to my emails quickly and he will be receiving my carbs here shortly. |

Poor old thing.It's been through some wars by the look of it but like you Colonials<grin> say,"It's taken a lickin' and it's still tickin'"  You can't keep a good bike down You probably aren't bothered but I advise,"Engine Bars/Protectors" for these bikes because of unusual engine design.Even at low speed if you lay the bike it can ruin the engine because the cylinders are integral to the block and the way they are out-of-the-frame. http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/honda/gl_50 ... me_-_pair/  Wemoto are worth a Bookmark even though they are UK they are a top provider and post to the World. I have them around here somewhere, I took them off because they were pretty beat up, obviously one of the former owners laid it down at speed, more than once. The only real fault with the GLs,and it's not really a fault,is the cost of a replacement Mono-shock.They can run to $350+ US.They can be repaired I think so get to know some one with some engineering gear/home mechanic-engineer. Wemoto do them, http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/honda/gl_50 ... monoshock/ http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/honda/gl_50 ... c02/82-85/ They are a great supplier to the World like David Silvers.Worth a Bookmark and will answer questions via email or phone:) Tip:Google search on modifying the Mono shock to fit a grease nipple. PS Engine bars saved my leg when I slid one of my CX! They form a barrier between the machine and the road when laid down. Tip2:I used an angle grinder to cut slots where the holes are so they go on and off easy e.g slide into position for the bolts.This has NOT weakened them in use as above they still did their job
