CX500 GL500 650 Global

Seems excessive how do i check for over charging and how can i fix it ? help

sorry 82 gl500 runs great but battery life i get better out my digital camera

1s thing 1st.Do you have a Multimeter?If so set it on 20v DC and put it across the battery terminals whilst the engine is idling.It should read between 14 and 15 volts.Preferably around 14.5v.
If it's higher than 15v then your Regulator is most likely faulty.
If it's ok then set your 20v AC.There should be NO noticeable AC voltage.If there is then the Rectifier is faulty.The Regulator and Rectifier are a combined unit on these and most bikes but easy to replace.

thanks I will try to start it, battery was dead put distilled in it trying to get it charged.
Yes i do have a multi so i will give it a go thanks again what does the rectifier/reg look like

The RR is at the back of the battery.It has fins on.Also the batteries for these bikes should not be charged at more than 1.4 amps.

ok did that dc reads 9.3 volts .......ac 0 if i could i would upload pics of my battery area battery did not appear to charge

If that was with the bike idling then it's too low and it seems like the battery has gone as well.The main cause of blowing batteries is if the Regulator has gone and putting too much voltage through the battery.You can get them 2nd hand off Ebay,

Start looking on your Ebay for GL regulators?

So a new used rectifier is here and I was trying to get the battery holder off omg there is a bolt in the rear of the frame its a bugger
