Hello all, just a quick hello from CXPHREAK in Orstraylya. I am also a member of the CX forum here which is great but you can never have too much info. Have already had some invaluable help from Shep {thanks!}.

Tis moi.

Please have a problem with your bike/s as I'm bored and need to fix something<grin>.Both my CX are just too wonderfully 100% apart form a bit of excessive oil use on my main one.My fault.Should have renewed the inlet valve guides when I did the exhaust ones but it's not enough to warrant a heads-off again job.

O.K. Shep, your wish is my command. A fundamental question really but I wonder if I have been slightly overfilling my CX with oil because of the angle that the dipstick goes into the motor. Do you have the oil level on the high mark on both sides of the dipstick or only on the side facing toward the bottom of the motor? I hope I have explained myself adequately,- as they say, a picture is worth a thousand poorly chosen words. :?:

On the centre stand on level ground.Run the engine at idle for a few seconds and stop.Leave for 5 mins.Pull dipstick and wipe.Place back in hole but don't screw down.Level should be half way up the hash marks.

Or leave for 5 mins after a ride and then as per above. This is to allow the oil to flow down by gravity from the engine and helps prevent over-filling which can be as bad as running low.

Note:To make sure you always use the same ground point put a chalk mark at the front wheel or the centre stand position on the ground and use that as your reference point.

Note:Oil warning lights should be renamed,"Engine Shagged" lights  unless it's just a fault with the warning system/sensor etc.

Hello all you CX freaks
I just bought my first CX500 Deluxe (1979) a couple of weeks ago. Its been sitting in a shed for the last 8 years but covered up and really in good cosmetic condition. I'm in the USA, state of Virginia and I've been a VTwin guy most of me adult life. This is the 3rd Honda I've owned, first was a 1966 Honda 90, then a 1985 1500 Goldwing and now this very cool looking CX500 Deluxe. It started right up when I bought it, but its all gummed up, engine ran nice, no smoke but the trottle and the engine weren't on real good speaking terms, they acted independently!
I've stripped off the Vetter Windjammer SS Fairing and mounting hardware, I'm going to sell those items as well as the crash bars I've removed. The fairing is a solid 8 out of 10 condition, the crash bars cracked at two mounting points and have been rewelded so the chrome there is not to good, but the bars are not bent or dinged up. I've got the tank off and soaking in Citric acid to remove the surface rust and next is the disassembly of the carbs so I can clean the varnish out of those. I've never taken carbs apart so I'm hoping you guys and gals can give me some good pointers of things to watch out for and avoid.
Once I navigate around the site a little I'll try and post some pictures of the bike and you can see the bike with the fairing and crash bars mounted.
Look forward to utilizing all of this good talent.
