And is it best to install new headgaskets dry or coated with a sealer on these motors?

My manuals always recommend using a quality Gasket sealer,which I do.I use Blue Hylomar

I got my crank in from ebay a couple days ago and I'm extremely pleased. It is in A+ beautiful shape. I will let you know how everything goes on rebuild. One more question though. I've heard of people using 10-40,15-40, and 20-50 weights of oil in these bikes. Which would you recommend using for the best lubrication and protection?

I use 15w40 made for diesel engines cheap supermarket oil.Rotella over there.Brit bikers have been using this oil for many years as it's designed to take much more hammering than standard Gasoline engine oil.Best tip is cheap and often changes between 3,000/4,000 miles.I check my tappets and cam-chain at the same time and change the drive box oil

Thanks so much for all of your help Kardan. I just got done with my cx this past sunday. It runs beautifully just like new. Its such a good feeling to have brought it back from the grave. I could not have successfully done this rebuild without your advice. Thanks and Thanks again.
