CX500 GL500 650 Global

Hello All, I'm new here and thought I would say hi. I'm 29yrs old from Canada and am currently working on a CX500. Long story short...it was my buddy's bike and he dropped it this summer ( he was fine) but he was spooked and sold it to me the same day for a couple hundred bucks. I just got back from the sandbox (Afghanistan) in May so I was looking for projects to keep me busy, and the next thing I knew I was hooked. The last time I was on a bike WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL!!! 15 years ago. To tell you the truth I don't even have my license yet, lol. Anyways...I took the bike out a few times and she ran fine. Got a feel for it and with that I started stripping her down and just ran with it. No experience fabricating, no real plans, just my imagination and some spare time and I got this...

Thanks. I've had a lot of fun. I just learned about this place from the boys at choppercharles, they've helped me along the way with the cx. The red one's a 350four. I'm excited for this one because by then I"LL BE RIDING THE CX BY THEN!!!...and fishing.

Did you know that the CXs shared some parts with the CB400ns and maybe the 350s.The forks and brakes are interchangeable,at least on the UK dual disc variants.You can also fit the larger diameter single pot Callipers from the old style CB750s and CB900s.I have a pair of CB900 callipers on my 2nd,"Bitsa" CX500 and it used to have CB400n forks on it.Change your fork oil to 20w fork oil and not the crappy ATF fluid Honda used.It will improve handling and thus braking no end

Also cheap 15w40 supermarket made for diesel cars engine oil will smooth the gearbox and gives better engine protection than stock 10w40.Don't use any oils with friction modifiers in them as they can cause clutch slip.Pre-emptive oil changes(Before 3,000 miles) using cheap oil is the way to go.

I'd like to get a bigger set of forks for the 350. Not only to beef them up a bit but also to hopefully get something a little higher. I want to use a set of bars that have no bends in them at all, just a straight pipe across the top, but because of my height I want them to sit a bit higher than usual so my ankles aren't around my head. I'b like to make up some rear sets but thats later. For now I need to focus on the remaining details on the CX, this is what I have left.

-new mount for speedo/tach and idiot lights
-siggys and tail light
-buy and mount tires
-mount rad over flow
-bend foot brake lever
-extension for foot shifter
-GET LISCENSE
