CX500 GL500 650 Global

Back on mine after an unfortunate year off. One thing though, I'm getting a rattle from it, it's quite loud at tickover and can be heard while riding. now it's not quite a knock and it doesn't increase under load like worn bottom end and oil pressure is good, light goes out as soon as it fires up and when turned over with ignition off an it has plenty of power exept for a slight flat spot at 2500rpm in top gear. It's had a new camchain, can see a new gasket on the rear cover and the previous owner showed me the old one. I've adjusted the valves and cam chain but can the adjuster stick? Say if there is a slight burr in the tensioner slot? Thought about slacking the bolt off and turning the engine over by hand via the front crank bolt behind the plug, then find tdc on the left cylinder and tighten the bolt as in the manual. Will this free the adjuster or wreck it? the noise is driving me mad!!!! oh it's an '82 CX500B

Near the bottom and when loose go for the front 17mm Inspection cover and put a socket and wrench on the Crank bolt and move the engine forward and backward just a little from TDC with the adjuster bolt loose.This may allow it to take up the slack in the Cam-chain.

Rattles can also be loose H-box guards/Loose nuts somewhere/Loose engine bolts.OI even had one where I had left a small bolt in a front recess of the engine behind the fan.Rattles can also be a worn Mechanical fan.

dont forget you must be on the compression stroke..........
