CX500 GL500 650 Global

New owner of an 83 GL650I. It runs, but not the way it should. It WILL soon run better than new. The online support for these bikes is amazing.

My most sincere thanks to Phil for starting and maintaining this forum.

I lived on motorcycles in my teens and twenty's, thirty or so years ago. When I decided to start riding again I made a trip to the local Harley dealer and sat on many bikes, few of which fit, none of which I could afford. So...purusuing Craigslist I stumbled on an ad for a CX500, a bike I wanted in my youth, in my price range. And much cooler than a Harley.

As it turns out these bikes are coveted in the Pittsburgh area. After many e-mails and voice messages telling the bike in question has been sold; I finally scored . Bought my bike about five miles away from home, two hours after it went up on Craig's.

It's taking a bit more work than I planned on, and more money (I knew that was coming, everything takes more money) but when it's done I'll have a classic motorcycle, that will handle commuting or touring.

These bikes are undervalued compared with say classic British bikes but they are,once brought back to good service condition,one of the best mid-weight bikes ever made bar none.

Great fuel economy,handling,easy to work on at home,Bull-dog looks I like etc.Parts are still available,not so much for the 650s(Less made) so always treat those with ultra care.

I love the look of the bike, it does resemble a bulldog.

I prefer the handling of an old Triumph but the Honda reliability and lower cost sold me on the twisted twin.

I work with a lot of bikers, mostly Harley a few rockets, everybody had to give the GL a look over. Comments were all favorable.
